Heather Garnett

Board member

Heather Garnett is delighted to return to The Royal, where she began her career as a mental health nurse and later served as Director of Quality and Safety. She is dedicated to delivering exceptional care and driving excellence in healthcare. With a background rooted in mental health and substance use care, she is a transformational leader known for creating collaborative environments and empowering teams. Her patient-centered leadership style inspires innovation and exceeds expectations.

Heather's commitment to quality improvement is evident in her record of spearheading significant initiatives. As Clinical Director for the Ottawa Hospital, she chaired the Schedule 1 Hospitals Leadership Committee and led the development of a new Regional Mental Health Flow Plan. She established a strong community of practice for health professionals, successfully implementing a new electronic medical record (EPIC).

With extensive experience in leadership roles throughout the national capital region, including as Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Executive for Almonte General Hospital, Heather has consistently demonstrated her passion for patient safety and quality improvement. Heather also brings a wealth of experience as a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada for twelve years and as a Board Director for Perley Health for seven years.

Heather holds a BScN and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa, along with a certification in patient safety. Currently pursuing her Lean Healthcare Black Belt Certification, she remains committed to advancing evidence-based practices.

Outside of work, Heather enjoys spending time with her family and friends, attending live concerts, and exploring the outdoors through activities like camping, hiking, and kayaking. She also finds joy in gardening and baking for her loved ones and community.
