Mentalizing-based therapy and dialectical-behavior therapy are two well-studied approaches to treating borderline personality disorder. They are also complementary. This workshop will explore how mentalizing and dialectical behavior therapy overlap and can be explicitly integrated. Topics to be covered include mentalizing and wise mind, mentalizing polarities and “the middle path,” and subtle differences in approach to validation. Participants will see video demonstrations and engage in small-group role play exercises to reinforce acquisition of concepts and skills.
This workshop is appropriate for Psychiatrists, Allied Health Care professions, Nurses, and students in related disciplines who work with clients experiencing Borderline Personality Disorder. The event will focus on both transitional aged youth and adult populations..
