Overview

This two-day LEAP (Listen-Empathize-Agree-Partner®) workshop is facilitated by Jenepher Lennox Terrion, the only facilitator currently certified to lead this workshop in Ontario, and caregiver advocate Caroline Liebenberg. It’s based on Dr. Xavier Amador’s best-selling book “I’m Not Sick, I Don’t Need Help.”

This evidence-based workshop teaches participants how to communicate with people who are struggling with serious mental illness and how to create an alliance that leads to treatment and recovery. At the end of the workshop, you will be able to use the LEAP tools to build a better relationship with your loved one/client and work together towards treatment. LEAP can be applied in any relationship but this workshop will be particularly relevant if you are:

  • a family member or friend of someone who is experiencing challenges with mental illness and/or substance use or has anosognosia (someone who does not believe they have a mental illness) and refuses treatment
  • a family caregiver of someone who understands they need treatment,
  • a mental healthcare professional/front line worker wanting to help someone accept treatment and services.

Please note this in-person workshop takes place over two days, on October 23 and October 30, 2024. Both sessions are mandatory.
