Forensic and correctional mental health care presents many challenges to clinical and security staff, patients, managers, policy makers, researchers and lawyers alike. The Royal’s 2nd Safety Through Recovery Conference will focus largely on practical aspects pertinent to the field, including management of violence, sexual offending, and addictions. Trauma in the workplace and vicarious trauma will also be explored. Person centered care and the patient voice as well as cultural aspects of working with Indigenous offenders will feature prominently over the two days. Additionally, there will also be a panel discussion with the audience on conditions of confinement to exchange ideas to limit the need for interventions such as clinical seclusion and segregation. The speaker lineup is a veritable who’s who of forensic and correctional mental health care in Canada.
