As a family member or caregiver, we understand that your loved one’s mental health or substance use health can have a significant impact on you. The Royal’s family information and support events are intended for family members or caregivers of individuals with a mental health or substance use health issue. These events are an opportunity to learn from our experts, find out about available resources, and connect with others who share a similar experience. There is no cost to participate but registration is required.

Validation is more than just the ability to acknowledge what is true in our loved ones statements, goals, values, feelings, struggles, and contributions. It can be an effective way of reducing tension and resistance to change, while at the same time, strengthening connections with the people around us.
Join Deborah Mullins, a social worker at The Royal, in this session about validation. She will answer some important questions: How can this communications technique improve relationships with family, friends, and loved ones? What’s the most effective form of validation? What are the six levels of validation and how do they help us relate to others?
This presentation is for family, friends, and caregivers of loved ones who may be struggling with a mental health diagnosis.
By the end of this session, participants will have the skills and understanding needed to start using validation techniques right away.
