The Ottawa Senators and Nick Paul have teamed up to continue his work surrounding mental health in support of The Royal.
Nick Paul, a player for the Senators, is reintroducing his program ‘Points by Paul’, which focuses on raising money for mental health research and programs, this time in collaboration with The Royal.
For every point that Nick scores in the remaining 2021-2022 season, he will personally donate $150 to The Royal. The Ottawa Senators will then match his donation for a total of $300 per point, all season long.
Along with Paul’s own donations, people can make their own to help support him and the cause, either through a one-time donation or a pledge for the rest of the season based on the number of points he accumulates.
Paul launched his first 'Points by Paul' campaign when he was in high school, playing for the Ontario Hockey League. He had tragically lost a close friend to suicide, which inspired him to advocate for the importance of meaningful conversations surrounding mental health.
“It’s something that affected me and stuck with me,” says Paul. “I knew through hockey the more I climbed up the ranks … I wanted to do something about it. I wanted to be a voice and wanted to spread awareness.”
So far, over $11,000 has been pledged through ‘Points by Paul’. The donations will help to support mental health research, recovery, urgent and critical care at The Royal.
Although donations are appreciated, Paul believes the real point is to start a conversation.
“If you can’t donate, being open, being receptive, learning about mental health and being there for people is definitely doing the same part.”
