Meet Amy
She is a recreation therapist at The Royal in the Mood and Anxiety unit. Amy has been at The Royal since 2011, devotedly working with clients of a variety of ages and backgrounds to create recreation therapy programs that will aid in their recovery.
When asked about her favourite part of her job, Amy replied, “I enjoy getting to know clients and bringing a bit of joy into their days. I am a people person.”
While Amy works hard to provide an excellent standard of care, inspiring one of her former clients to nominate her as a Royal Angel, it is Amy who is left inspired: “Our clients are adjusting to being in-patients and undergoing treatment for mental illness, and many of them still make recreation and leisure a priority. It’s especially inspiring to me to see them persevere through treatment and continue to work out.”
Amy believes that care is showing compassion – taking the time to listen to clients’ stories and making a little extra effort to help them feel welcome and supported. She also believes that true advocacy means supporting her clients to the best of her ability to ensure that she is meeting their needs and helping them get the most out of their time spent in her care.
“I am honoured to receive a Royal Angel Award. Growing up, I knew I wanted a career where I could help others and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to do this every day.”
