We are proud to announce that Dr. Florence Dzierszinski, president of the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR) at The Royal and vice-president of research, has been invited to serve as a member of the Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction advisory board, one of 13 institutes of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

CIHR is a federal agency responsible for funding health and medical research in Canada and seeks to create and translate new knowledge into improved health for Canadians. The Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA) contributes to this mandate by supporting research and knowledge mobilization focused on the functioning of the mind and brain, as well as sensory systems.

“We are pleased to see Dr. Dzierszinski represent The Royal on this national stage and shape the future of mental health research in Canada. This appointment to INMHA board is a testament to her dedication, and not only reflects her accomplishments but also shines a spotlight on the remarkable work that takes place at The Royal every day,” says Cara Vaccarino, president and CEO of The Royal.

Dzierszinski brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this role, having dedicated her career to advancing health research, fostering innovative approaches in the field of mental health, and mentoring young researchers. Her commitment to excellence and passion for driving positive change has significantly contributed to the success of The Royal and extends into the broader mental health community.

“We are pleased to see Dr. Dzierszinski represent The Royal on this national stage and shape the future of mental health research in Canada.” says Cara Vaccarino, president and CEO of The Royal.“We are incredibly proud of how the IMHR has transformed over the last few years, and the high-calibre team of scientists, clinicians, trainees and staff that are providing access to care through research,” says Dzierszinski.

“Research is care. Through research, we can provide hope to those for whom other avenues of treatment have been unsuccessful. Receiving care through participation in our clinical trials and other research studies empowers our clients at a time when a sense of control over their own care may have faded.”

Dzierszinski’s leadership in her field is built on a strong track record of health research, including a CIHR Canada Research Chair at McGill University and awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) among others.

Please join us in extending our warmest congratulations to Dr. Florence Dzierszinski. We look forward to seeing the positive impact she will make in this role.
